2nd International Gathering of Social Movements on Water

Day 1: Thursday, June 8, 2017
  • COMMUNITY BUS TOUR OF DETROIT, 1-2:30PM
        Limited on-site registration opens: Hotel St. Regis, Detroit, 12-3pm.
  • OPENING EVENT AND RECEPTION, 4-8pm
        Location: Wayne County Community College, Downtown Campus, Detroit.

    • Front-line social welfare workers and victims of poverty panel
    • Keynote Speaker TBA
    • Live video from United Nations Special Rapporteur on Water and Sanitation, Dr. Leo Heller 
    • Reception
Day 2: Friday, June 9, 2017
  • NATIONAL LEGAL & LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT ON WATER, 8:30am-4:30pm
        Location: Hotel St. Regis, Ballroom, Detroit.
    • Welcome, overview
    • Legal and Legislative reports
    • Lived experiences  
    • Public health 
    • Evening: Small group meetings, dinner and film; at MWRO, Detroit.
  • SOCIAL WELFARE ACTION ALLIANCE (SWAA) HUMAN RIGHTS RUMBLE, 1-4pm
        Location: Hotel St. Regis, Boulevard Room, Detroit.

Day 3: Saturday, June 10, 2017
  • GRASSROOTS GATHERING ON WATER, 8:30am-5:30pm
        Location: International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 58, Detroit.
    • Welcome, overview
    • Morning: Political analysis
    • Afternoon: Local, national and international panel reports on water and communities.
    • Evening: Dinner and band
Day 4: Sunday, June 11, 2017 (All participants asked to remain until 2pm)
  • STRATEGY SESSIONS & CLOSING
        Location: Dossin Museum, DeRoy Hall at Belle Isle, Detroit.
    • Morning: Water activity
    • Morning-Afternoon: Grassroots, Legal and Legislative reviews and strategy planning 
    • Afternoon: Decisions, conclusions
Meals will be provided each day to all participants who register. A $5 donation per person per day will be requested on-site to offset costs. No one will be turned away.
